📱WWDC Dates Announced + Apple's Spring OS Updates Are Here

Plus: Gentler Streak App and The Cybernetic Teammate on Basic AF

Hey there!

WWDC dates have been announced! More on that below.

Apple dropped all the OS updates this week (except for those fancy new Siri features) and I've got the highlights for you. Plus, there's a great new episode of Basic AF to check out and Apple wants to replicate your doctor with Project Mulberry.

Let's dig in!

📱 WWDC is June 9-13

WWDC 2025 is June 9-13

Apple announced its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will be held on June 9-13. As in recent years, the event is online and at no cost.

A special event at Apple Park will kick off the conference on June 9. Event attendees will watch the Keynote and Platforms State of the Union and have access to Apple developer experts. The rest of us will view the keynote online.

Side note: While it didn't happen this year, I would love to see Apple return to live events. The recorded productions are top-notch and served a purpose during the pandemic years, but it's time to return to the Steve Jobs Theater.

Of course, much more to come as we approach June and I'll provide a full recap here and on Basic AF.

What are you most interested in seeing at WWDC?

It's still two months away, but WWDC will be here before we know it. What are you most excited to see? Leave a comment and let me know.

🌸 Apple’s Spring OS Updates Are Here

While the advanced context-aware Siri updates have been postponed to a later date, Apple did release OS updates across its product families this week. Here are the highlights:

iOS and iPadOS 18.4

  • Apple Intelligence supports 8 additional languages.

  • Visual Intelligence for iPhone 15 Pro models. For a recap of Visual Intelligence, see my previous write-up. Apple also added a Visual Intelligence Action Button option that can be used rather than using Camera Control on iPhone 16 models.

  • Priority Notifications: Show your most important notifications first. It's off by default, but you can turn it on at Settings > Notifications > Priority Notifications.

  • Ambient Music in Control Center has four categories to choose from: Chill, Sleep, Wellbeing, and Productivity.

  • App Store Review Summaries and the ability to pause App Store downloads.

  • New Podcasts widgets (also available on macOS).

  • Categories, which launched on iOS, are now available in the Mail app on iPadOS.

  • Support for a third row of app icons in more vehicles in CarPlay.

  • The Photos app has new search/view filters and sorting options.

  • And of course, there are new Emojis! 🫩

macOS

  • Categories are now available in the Mail app.

  • Memory movies in Photos.

  • A new style option, Sketch, is available in Image Playground (this is in iOS, iPadOS, and visionOS as well).

  • Fix for the annoying Reactions camera icon not closing when you click the X in FaceTime, Zoom, and other apps that use the camera.

  • Apple News+ now includes a new Food section with recipes, articles, etc. Available on all platforms with Apple News.

watchOS

  • There's a new option to allow Sleep Alarms to make a noise, even with your iPhone in Silent Mode. Previously, if your phone was in Silent Mode, the alarms on the Apple Watch would use haptic tapping to wake you up (I love this and will write more about it soon). They still do this, but now you can have them make noise as well, while keeping the rest of your phone in Silent Mode.

visionOS

  • Apple Intelligence is now available for Vision Pro owners in the US.

  • A new Spatial Gallery app with Apple-curated spatial photos and videos, as well as panorama images.

  • Companion Apple Vision Pro iPhone app to help with discovering apps and content.

Apple also released updates for tvOS and HomePod software.
